During the events of Before the Fall, Nabriales confronts the adventurer and Moenbryda in Northern Thanalan, sensing that the adventurer is no longer blessed with Hydaelyn's Blessing (due to Midgardsormr's actions), and therefore no longer a threat to the Ascians. As Hydaelyn's Blessing also kept the Ascians from attacking the Scions of the Seventh Dawn directly, Nabriales decides to go to The Rising Stone. There, wounding Moenbryda when she attempted to strike him down, Nabriales reveals his intention to use the stone tablet fragment embedded in Tupsimati and begin the next Rejoining.
Since Minfilia refused to relinquish the item, and knowing Elidibus would be furious, Nabriales simply spirits away her and the staff to the Chrysalis in the Aetherial Rift. Following him into the portal, the Adventurer defeats Nabriales and returns Minfilia to the Rising Stones. But Nabriales follows, reconstituting himself while explaining he will keep returning for the staff no matter how many times he's banished. But Moenbryda tosses Minfilia a White Auracite to trap him in while the Adventurer uses Tupsimati to fire a aether-filled blast at the crystal. With not enough Aether to shatter the crystal Moenbryda is forced to transfer her own life force into the staff giving it the amount needed to completely erase the Ascian.
Canon Divergence (SHB Spoilers!)
However, Nabriales manages to cling onto the slightest sense of his aether. Casting himself into the rift ashamed of his failures not wanting the other’s to see him in such a state. In the rift he is in a coma like condition. Vaguely registering what is happening around him. But unable to do anything until be can properly form himself again.
Once Nabriales did manage this he is tossed back into the room where the warrior of light almost killed him. Unknown to the Ascian the Scions had moved. In a panic he forced himself back into the rift only to be tossed out at The tempest.
Which is where Nabriales currently resides. Tempest gives him a sense of calm and he feels more comfortable than ever there.
Small tid bits / Add ons
Nabriales avoids contact with the other Ascians. Deeming himself unworthy and a failure to their cause due to his impulsive and hot headed nature.
Nabriales is one of the younger Ascians easily budding heads with his peers. Finding their ways slow and out drawn.
Nabriales does not know of The Tempest being where the Ascians formerly lived. Nor does he remember any of what caused it to crumble. Instead believing he joined their ranks to become stronger and research concepts unknown to him. Often getting into arguments with Lahabrea over this research always being out done by him.
